The term ‘handicraft’ actually applies to anything that someone crafts with their hands making the minimal use of machines.
Now, whether you create the handicraft item yourself or whether you buy it off an ethnic shop, it will still be special.
The very fact that this item hasn’t been mass-produced makes it special to the person that receives it. Even if handicraft items cost the least, they are the most highly regarded.
There are two main reasons why handicraft items make for excellent gift items.

written on it will be kept lovingly by the person who receives
them.
